Student Judicial Affairs (SJA) administers the student disciplinary system to ensure just and prompt resolution of alleged student misconduct; promotes ethical growth and development of students involved in the discipline process; and upholds standards of excellence. The department publishes behavioral standards for students, conducts outreach, and provides consultation regarding academic integrity and social responsibility, student discipline, and grievance processes. SJA promotes campus awareness and discussion to prevent misconduct and encourage integrity and ethical behavior. The SJA office also provides leadership opportunities for students in outreach, peer education, and student discipline.
With the Student Crisis Response Team, SJA coordinates responses to high-risk or disruptive situations or individuals. The SJA office additionally provides information and assistance to students regarding grievance processes and student rights, and responds to student grievances in a manner that fosters a climate of fairness, civility, and mutual respect. They also facilitate conflict mediation services to students.
In addition, SJA reviews, revises, and interprets campus policies pertaining to student responsibilities and rights, as well as maintains centralized and confidential student disciplinary records.
