How Do I?
FEATURED CLUB :: UC Davis Astronomy Club

Astronomy Club

You're invited to a Dec. 1 meeting of the UC Davis Astronomy Club at Explorit Science Center, 3141 Fifth St., Davis, 7:00 p.m. You needn't be a member or pay any dues. If you are interested in astronomy, you are welcome to attend! On the agenda: a review of what to look for—and what to avoid—when buying a telescope or pair of binoculars as a holiday gift, and the best places in the night sky to point at in the fall and winter seasons.

Club members will also discuss useful accessories that make backyard astronomy a fun, rewarding, and educational hobby. Stargazing will follow the indoor program, weather permitting. Note that Mars will make its closest approach of the year to earth on Dec 18.

Public viewings are the events at which the Astronomy Club tries to bring astronomy to anyone and everyone. At the moment, the Hutchison Observatory is undergoing renovations, so the only public viewings are held on the Physics and Geology building roof every other Friday. We bring out telescopes and show vistors all sorts of objects, from planets to galaxies. This viewing is great for large groups and children. Everyone is welcome. Directions to get to the roof will be posted on the night of the event. The next public viewing is Friday, November 30, 8:00–9:00 p.m.
