Financial Updates: Fundraising

Fundraising doubled from the previous year, resulting in more than $800,000 in gifts, not including those made to Intercollegiate Athletics. Particular success was achieved in student scholarships, support for STEP, and gifts for reentry students.

Highlights include:

• A second grant of $50,000 from the Bernard Osher Foundation for Reentry Student Services, which qualifies the campus to request a third grant of $50,000 for scholarships for reentry students. Once the campus has successfully reported on the use of the funds, UC Davis is eligible to apply for a $1 million endowment to endow the scholarship program.
• A gift of $50,000 from the mother of a former student who was tragically killed while cycling in Palo Alto. He was a member of the cycling team while at UC Davis. The gift established a scholarship in his name.
• A commitment from the Eva and Frank Buck Trust for three years of funding for UC Davis Orientation for students who cannot afford to pay for the program.
• A five–year commitment from Reno and Margie Cruz to underwrite scholarships for students who are first in their family to attend college.
• An endowment from an alumnus to provide funding for intramural volleyball and an additional endowment set up in honor of the retirement of Gary Colberg, former associate athletic director of intramural sports and sport clubs.
