Ensuring diversity, providing accessibility, mental health services are priorities for Student Affairs
Message from Vice Chancellor Fred Wood
I'm privileged to be addressing you as the new vice chancellor for Student Affairs, and I hope to meet many of you at the Student Affairs Fall Gathering, Wednesday, September 12.
While serving at UC Davis as an adviser, associate dean of the College of Letters and Science, and interim provost of Undergraduate Studies, I was involved with a range of Student Affairs departments. I learned the Student Affairs division is full of caring, principled people committed to students' success; my past experiences also gave me a sense of the wonderful things this campus does for students, the community and society. So when I accepted the position of vice chancellor, I felt I'd come home.
As vice chancellor, one of the things I bring to Student Affairs is a long-standing service to the campus—an understanding of the campus and the way it works. I believe I've built credible relationships with folks inside and outside of the division, and I may be able to enhance those relationships because I know both the academic and administrative sides of campus. I also hope to provide advocacy for Student Affairs: one of the roles of vice chancellor is to be knowledgeable about activities in the division, which enables me to inform others of the great work of the division and to create allies in helping move the institution forward. continued
