Message from Vice Chancellor Fred Wood

Budget Update

These are certainly difficult budgetary times, but I am heartened by several things. At least thus far, our Student Affairs budget has been well received, and I don't anticipate significant changes in it, at least as far as campus reviews go. Also, at the divisional level it's unlikely we'll see major additional reductions beyond the original 7 percent estimate for the 2008-2009 year. Finally, we have some time to plan for the further reductions that are likely for the following year.

Budget Reduction Plan - A Snapshot View

  • The Student Affairs reduction targets remain at 7 percent.
  • Some differential cuts were incorporated:
    • The divisional office's reduction target is 10 percent.
    • Several other units are reducing their budgets by 8 percent.
  • Search processes are temporarily suspended for the division's assistant and associate vice chancellor positions.
