Student Transition and Retention

The Student Transition and Retention (STAR) Committee was created as part of the campus's effort to design an enrollment management continuum that enables students to enter the university of their choice with relative ease, negotiate the complexities of the institutional structure to their benefit, and exit with a degree.

The STAR committee, headed by Ward Stewart, director of the Learning Skills Center, has completed a report containing recommendations within the framework of a retention model with the following components:

  • Implement strategies to connect students with the university.
  • Initiate a campuswide early-detection system.
  • Create follow-up procedures for students in academic difficulty.
  • Establish an exit procedure for students leaving the university.

The committee based its recommendations in part on the results of a survey conducted by Student Affairs Research and Information: Will You Graduate From UC Davis?
