Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference: 20 Years Showcasing Student Work
It's a "big year " in the words of Elaine Borrelli, director of Advising Services: the twentieth anniversary of the Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference.
Relatively new to campus, Borrelli is co-chairing the conference with Gail Martinez, assistant vice provost, Undergraduate Studies. A planning committee composed of representatives from the colleges and sponsored programs provides guidance and feedback.
"Through research, scholarship and creative activities, students take what they learn in the classroom and apply it," said Borelli. "At the conference, students are saying 'This is my knowledge, and I'm ready to share, demonstrate, explain.'"
Borrelli urges campus community members to attend the conference, which she said is a chance to see the talent in our midst. "And it's not just science," emphasizes Borrelli, "it's performance art and scholarship as well."
Within six years of graduation, more than 80% of UC Davis students undertake post-baccalaureate education, said Borelli. "It's exciting to think that our students may take the research they've done here and build on it in their graduate studies," she said.
