CPT
CPT is the acronym for the user functional group that coordinates the operations and maintenance of the UC Davis Student Information System (SIS). Since the project plays a key supporting role for
so many divisions of the University, it is necessary to have a user group representing the core offices. The Registrar, Undergraduate Admissions,
Student Aid Accounting, and Financial Aid all are stewards of specific modules designed and designated as office of record Tier One systems. The Office
of Graduate Studies Division also has a representative to provide feedback on systems specifically designed for Graduate Student operations and tracking. These offices each
have one vote. Instructional & Educational Technology attends as ex-officio members, including their SIS Project Manager, the SIS Data Architect, Data Center
Manager and others as necessary, since they are primarily responsible for the technical infrastructure the systems require to properly function.
The group meets biweekly and generally
discusses and coordinates the SIS project plan and implementing it. Many
topics are brought to the group as design and implementation anomolies or
institutional initiatives. And while system enhancement is difficult under budget constraints,
discusses appropriate funtional, technical and architectural enhancements and priorities. CPT
makes recommendations to SISOC (see below) regarding management of the entire system.
CPT Meetings
The regular meeting schedule is every other Tuesday from 10-12. Note that agendas
are constantly changing to reflect the needs of the clients and may change
right down to the beginning of the meeting per Roberts Rules of Order.

The SIS at UC Davis is a key component in the Automation scheme which taken in total
constitutes UC Davis institutional Enterprise Resource Manager. It is primarily designed
as an OnLine Transaction Processor for operational uses but must also serve as the basis for
a strategic information generator. The following are resources you may use to research the
SIS.
CPT Mission
The mission of the SIS CPT is primarily to coordinate functionality and operations of the SIS.
It must insure cross functionality of the major operations that it supports, and coherently address technical issues of the larger SIS. The main subsystems
include the Registrar's Student schema (registration and student records), Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, and Accounts Receivable. For each of these areas, the SIS is the largest and most important automation support used in pursuit of their mission and goals, and are thereby the office of record in each case. These offices also serve as data stewards for each area of expertise.
In addition, as it is used in support of nearly every
aspect of Graduate student academic administration as well, a representative from Graduate Studies is appointed to
insure that coordination. The committee makes recommendations to SISOC as requested or on
a "heads up" basis when functionality or requested functionality of the SIS suggests operational
complications or non-compliance for the campus.
Accomplishing this Mission
Each year, there are a certain number of "mandated tasks" that require the SIS be modified.
Those tasks are dictated, either functionally (for example, Office of the President requests
a modification to Corporate reporting format), or technically (the relational database management
system requires an upgrade to insure vendor support). These MUST be accomplished in a timely way,
for a correctly functioning University to continue.
There are also strategic initiatives. These are enhancements
to the system which make operations involving the database easier, more efficient, more effective or
create a structure which allows for enhancement or cooperation of other University systems or processes.
Major projects go onto a list in a prioritized manner. It is the primary focus of the
SIS CPT to insure that the mandated tasks are accomplished in a timely manner coordinated
throughout the Core Offices. Then, if resources are still available, it is the secondary focus
of the committee to accomplish the enhancements on the list. There have been relatively few
opportunities to fulfill enhancements for the projects for many years due in great part to budget
and system support organization. Manadated tasks generally dominate the activities of CPT.
SISOC - The Student Information System Oversight Committee
The SIS CPT is primarily a functional committee. Details of implementations often dominate the
agendas of the the committee meetings. Management of the SIS is the purpose of
SISOC (Student Information System Oversight Committee). Vision,
direction, positioning of the SIS in overall campus automation architecture, staffing, organization and campus
training for the SIS are all of primary concern to SISOC. SISOC has roughly the same divisional representation
as CPT does, with some notable differences: Office of the University Cashier and Student Housing each have
representation at the SISOC table. SISOC is currently Co-Chaired by Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Leon
Washington and Assisstant Vice Provost Dave Shelby of Information and Educational Technology.

The CPT Hall of Fame
Originally, CPT was formed in the late 1980's to serve as a workgroup to bring up the
UC Davis SIS after an RFP process identified a suitable Enterprise Resource Program. Since
then, there has been enough on the agenda to keep the group busy enough to continue a bi-weekly
schedule. Many dedicated faces have come and gone from around the table, and this section of the
website commemorates those who served above and beyond the call of community duty. CPT salutes:
