Oceanography Club
The Oceanography Club's officers met at a Bodega Marine Laboratory summer session and most members have declared a minor in oceanography.
"We're a brand new club on the UC Davis campus," says President Allison Philips, "that stemmed from interest in the oceanography minor that was approved at UC Davis last year."
The club is small and still getting started, according to Phillips, but members are very active and enjoy the club. "Including myself," exclaims Phillips.
Phillips says her motivation for starting the club was "pure interest in bringing people together who love learning about the ocean—like myself and the other officers."
"The club has been a wonderful experience," says Phillips, "in which I have met new students with similar interests and I have made good contacts with professors interested in oceanography. The responsibility as an officer to run the club has been very gratifying, and an example of a successful activity we recently participated in was the Caesar Chavez Elementary School Science Fair. Before and during the science fair our members joined together as a team to produce a fun exhibit for kids. Our efforts paid off when we saw the kids' faces light up."
