Starting a Club at UC Davis

Every year, the Student Programs and Activities Center (SPAC) registers close to 500 student organizations on the UC Davis campus. It is through registration as a student organization that your group is recognized by the university. This entitles you and your group to a variety of services from SPAC and other campus departments. Registration expires June 30 each year.

To register your group, the president or treasurer takes an online orientation and takes a test. Once your group's designated representative has taken the orientation and passed the test, he or she will receive an e-mail confirmation. Submit the confirmation and the registration form to the SPAC receptionist no later than 30 days after you receive the confirmation. Once your group has registered, it's valid until June 30, 2008. However, groups must re-register every year.

Benefits to registering your group include:
  • Occasional use of reservable university facilities and properties for activities such as meetings, social events, fundraising, speakers and conferences.
  • A campus mailbox and use of campus mail for correspondence with members who have campus addresses and for conducting the organization's business with campus departments.
  • Free use of storage lockers for your group (available on a first come, first served basis).
  • The privilege to post and distribute materials on campus in accordance with the UC Davis Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Opportunities to sponsor fundraising activities on campus, with SPAC approval.
  • Financial services through a campus agency account, with SPAC approval.
  • Eligibility to apply for funds from Club Finance Council. (For undergraduate clubs only; graduate student organizations are eligible for funding through the Graduate Student Association or through their respective professional schools.)
  • The use of MU and Silo outdoor tables for distributing information and fundraising.
  • The use of display boards on the first floor of the MU.
  • Access to SPAC resources including advising, leadership training programs, event planning, problem solving, referrals, and participation in the Activities Faire.
  • For more details please refer to the registration section in our Student Organization Sourcebook.
