It takes a village! Supporters are an important part of the NUFP program’s success. Depending on your expertise and desired level of involvement there are several ways you can show your support.
Nominate a Student
Do you know an awesome student who is interested in exploring the field of student affairs? Use our google form to submit a nomination for the upcoming cohort of fellows.
Fellows for the upcoming academic year and should:
- Be a full-time undergraduate student
- Have a least a 2.5 GPA
- Have a strong desire to learn more about higher education and student affairs
- Identify as historically disenfranchised and underrepresented professionals in student affairs and/or higher education. This may include, but is not limited to, those of racial and ethnic-minority background, those having a disability and those identifying as LGBTQIA+.
If you have several students you would like to nominate, send along a spreadsheet to recruitment chair Vanessa Talavera.
Become a Mentor
Mentors are full-time professionals with at least two years of post-master’s experience working in higher education or student affairs.
Mentorship commitment is one academic year and includes meeting once or twice a month with their fellow, attending monthly mentor meetings and participating in several NUFP events throughout the year.
If you are interested in being a mentor, simply fill out the mentor interest form.
To nominate someone else as a mentor, fill out the mentor nomination form. Selected mentors will be notified the first week of August.
The UC Davis NUFP Committee selects mentors based on the number of fellows and their interests. The goal is to create diverse pairs that can learn from one another throughout the year.

Share Your Expertise
If you can't commit to being a mentor but still want to engage with the next generation of student affairs professionals, this is a great option for you. Do you have a professional development presentation to share? Are you open to having a student shadow you to learn more about your functional area? Would you like to serve on a panel to provide perspective about what it is really like to be a student affairs professional?
