Net 13 percent water reduction during 2014-15

In response to a Utilities Department rebate program, 15 campus departments (including Student Housing, Campus Recreation, ASUCD and UC Davis Bookstore) reduced their collective water consumption over the past year by nearly 20 million gallons, compared to fiscal year 2013-14.

The program, announced last July in response to the drought, offered rebates to paying campus customers equal to their annual water use reduction, up to 20 percent. For example, if a department reduced annual water use by 10 percent, its rebate was 10 percent.

The water-use records for last year have now been tallied, and 73 percent of the metered sites cut their water use in fiscal year 2014-15 to earn a rebate. About one-third of these facilities cut their water use by more than 20 percent. Overall, departments achieved a net 13 percent reduction in water use and campuswide rebates totaled about $30,000.
