Finding a Job

5 Steps for Finding a Job

Working while in school can be a great way to help get a little extra cash in your pocket, keep loan debt down and gain useful real-world work experience. Several services on campus can help you find work.

Here are five ways to get started now.

1. Log into Aggie Job Link

This is one of the main portals for students to find on- and off-campus jobs, both part-time and full-time. Once you create an account, visit the site early and often because employers post new positions every day.

2. Check out jobs through ASUCD

The Associated Students, University of California, Davis (ASUCD) is the campus’ student government and is primarily student-managed and staffed. ASUCD offers internships and employs upwards of 1,500 students every year.

3. Attend an Internship and Career Center workshop

The Internship and Career Center at UC Davis has a number of weekly workshops that help you with your resume and cover letters, for example. Check out the schedule.

4. Put our career fairs on your calendar

Many companies register to attend UC Davis’ internship and career fairs because they are interested in hiring Aggies like you!  The fairs are open only to UC Davis undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and recent graduates. Check out the list of employers participating on Aggie Job Link and see the dates for upcoming Internship and Career Fairs.

5. Get an interview

Being a competitive interviewee takes preparation and practice. Review the Internship and Career Center’s interviewing tips and schedule an appointment with one of our advisors to prepare. You can also get an interview with outside companies right here on campus. Many companies conduct their first-round interviews at the on-campus fairs. To see which companies are on the list and apply for a job, follow these instructions.
