Joint Message Addressing Extreme and Hateful Speech Among Our Community

Global events continue to cause direct or indirect trauma to our students, faculty and staff. In the midst of this conflict, while we’ve seen many members of our community express support, we’re also receiving reports of extreme and hateful speech made by members of our UC Davis student community. These statements are harmful and actively create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.

We vehemently condemn any remarks that advocate for violence or genocide against a person or community or promote a hateful rhetoric that is antithetical to our campus values. Any action that makes a person, from any background, country, religion or identity feel unwelcome, afraid and unable to learn or work, is not acceptable. We must honor one another’s humanity, even when we have different perspectives.

Our top priority is to provide support and guidance to any member of our community who may be impacted by harmful speech or offensive behavior to ensure that they are not restricted in their participation in UC Davis programs or activities. The departments below are available for students to file a complaint and receive support.
