A message from Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Pablo Reguerín
UC Davis is committed to being a place where all students can live, learn and thrive as their authentic selves. Our transgender and nonbinary students and staff are an integral part of the UC Davis community and have the right to live free from discrimination, harassment and fear. The attacks we are seeing that seek to target, invalidate and endanger transgender and nonbinary people are deeply troubling and harmful.
Throughout this quarter, I have had the opportunity to meet with transgender and nonbinary students and staff, listening to your experiences and concerns. These conversations have underscored the need for solidarity and meaningful action.
The Division of Student Affairs is committed to maintaining programming and services and ensuring that transgender and nonbinary students have the support, resources and advocacy necessary to thrive at UC Davis. As part of this commitment, a variety of resources are available:
The LGBTQIA Resource Center offers a welcoming and affirming space for community, advocacy, support and resources, such as:
- Trans Advocate: A dedicated staff member who provides individualized support, guidance and advocacy for transgender and nonbinary students.
- Trans Resources List for on and off-campus resources
- Name and gender change support
- Trans Student Rights Toolkit
- Gender Affirmation Closet
Medical and Counseling Services:
- Gender Care Team: A specialized team offering gender-affirming healthcare, counseling and wellness services. In November, the LGBTQIA Resource Center and Student Health and Counseling Services issued a statement affirming their commitment to continuing to provide those services for trans students.
- Counselors who specialize in serving the LGBTQIA+ community
Staff and Faculty Resources:
- Queer and Trans Faculty and Staff Association (QTFSA): an employee resource group that advocates for LGBTQIA+ faculty, staff and allies by promoting policies, programs and initiatives that advance equity and well-being.
- HR Resources for Transgender and Nonbinary Employees
From a systemwide perspective, the University of California is actively engaged in reviewing and evaluating the potential impacts of various federal directives and has launched a central website, including an executive order tracker, to keep the UC community informed.
Transgender and nonbinary students and staff belong here and are not alone. UC Davis is your community and we are committed to supporting you. We will continue to partner alongside you during this challenging and uncertain time. If there are additional ways we can provide support, please continue to share your thoughts—we are listening.
With care,
Pablo Reguerín
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
