The More the MENASA

With the addition of the letters N and A, ME/SA Student Resources—a part of the Division of Student Affairs—has become MENASA—Middle Eastern, North African and South Asian Student Resources. The addition of the NA (for North African) came in response to feedback received from community members that the term “Middle Eastern” in the unit’s name wasn't sufficiently representing North African culture and identity or reflecting the community's role as an integral part of the larger MENASA community.

“Folks have been really supportive about the name change, but mostly curious,” said Affaf Waseem, director of MENASA. “It has been an opportunity to talk about the nuances within the MENASA community and it's been a really great teaching moment.”
