Student Affairs: Changes Coming This Fall
Last year, the division launched its new Strategic Plan and has been analyzing both our structure and the ways in which we deliver programs and services to students. A key priority is to create the infrastructure needed to better anticipate and respond to student needs and ensure that students have the support and resources to thrive.
The divisions is excited to share several important updates that will expand student support, strengthen community and streamline how we operationalize our work.
Health Promotion
Health Education and Promotion has been renamed Health Promotion, with a continued focus on advocating for campus systems and environments that foster student wellness and connecting students with health and wellness resources.
Office of Educational Outreach and Enrichment Services (OEOES)
The unit known as OEOES will sunset this fall. Its programs and centers will continue under their own names to increase visibility and access. These include: Center for the Educational Opportunity Program and STEP, Transfer and Reentry Center, Veterans Success Center, Guardian Scholars Program and Underground Scholars Program. Additionally, Success Coaching and Learning Strategies, PreGrad/PreLaw Advising services have moved into Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers forming the Student Success Pathways unit. First Year Aggie Connections has joined First Year Experience as part of the New Student Programs team.
OSSJA Rebrand: A New Structure for Student, Staff and Faculty
After extensive research, including focus groups with students, staff and faculty, the Office of Student Support and Judicial Affairs (OSSJA) will transition into two units:
- Office of Student Support – Support referrals, case management and holistic care
- Student Conduct and Integrity – Upholding the Code of Academic and Student Conduct through a supportive, educational approach
While internal staffing will remain similar, the new structure aims to reduce stigma, clarify roles, ease student access to resources and simplify staff and faculty access to referrals.
Retention and Community Centers
In support of the Student Affairs Strategic Plan and in response to student feedback and student success data, we have expanded and rebranded the centers below. The programs and services provided by the centers are available to all students.
- The Center for Chicanx and Latinx Academic Student Success will be El Centro.
- The Asian and Pacific Islander Academic Retention Initiative’s new Lotus Mana Center will open in the fall and will be located on the second floor of the Memorial Union.
- The new Middle Eastern North African and South Asian (MENASA) Resource Center will open in the fall and will be located on the second floor of the Student Community Center.
- The Native American Academic Student Success Center will be The Nest.
We are updating the relevant websites and expect to complete that process by September 24. Considering lead times for promoting events and providing materials, we wanted to share this update with you in advance of the changes so that you can incorporate the new names, where applicable, into any materials or communications that you may be working on that will be distributed after September 24.
