Opportunities for All Student Affairs Staff

CliftonStrengths® Professional Development

Staff Coaching and Professional Development offers a series of opportunities that are built around strengths-based development for individuals, teams, managers and leaders. We utilize the CliftonStrengths® assessment as a professional tool to create self-awareness, growth, a common language and a pathway to engagement.

Strengths-Based Programs and Offerings

PREREQUISITE: All of the opportunities below require participants to complete the CliftonStrengths® assessment prior to participation. If you would like to participate in the programs below and have not yet taken the CliftonStrengths® assessment, please contact your manager.

  • Strengths Coaching for Individuals - meet one-on-one with a certified Strengths coach to explore your own goals or challenges utilizing your CliftonStrengths® report as a discovery and reflection tool.
  • Exploring Strengths Lunchtime Chat - this is a casual, informal opportunity to connect with other colleagues who have completed the Strengths assessment and deepen your awareness and application of your talents. Each month features a facilitated discussion or activity, including the use of breakout rooms for small group conversation. The tools you learn from these gatherings can then be brought back and shared within your own teams.
  • Strength Coach Certification Course - this is an onsite 5-day certification course to become a Gallup Global Strengths Coach and join the coaching community on campus. Course Fee: $4,000 per person. Student Affairs will be funding 12 full scholarships in 2024. Please contact our team to learn more.
    • Strengths Coaches Community of Practice - once you become a certified strengths coach, you have the opportunity to join a community of Strengths coaches campuswide who learn together and share ideas and experiences.

Core Professional Development

  • Small Group Mentoring Program - mentoring experience with a 3:1 mentee-mentor ratio for Student Affairs practitioners to learn from each other. The program includes three large group sessions, exploring topics such as networking, goal setting, applying strengths and career journeys. Small group sessions occur monthly for 6 months, with exact times and format decided by the individual groups.
  • LEGO Serious Play Workshops - hands-on thinking and learning to build metaphors to tap into subconscious thought. This workshop is an individual development activity and can be used to explore topics including goal setting, career exploration and navigating challenges.
  • Facilitators Learning Lab - this workshop is for anyone who hosts meetings, workshops, trainings or other staff engagement opportunities. Learn facilitation techniques, methods, tools and best practices. In the “lab” portion, you will try it out and get direct and constructive feedback from the group.
